SmallChange.co Expands, Welcomes Five Partners With Expertise in Regulation Crowdfunding

PITTSBURGH – March 6, 2024 – SmallChange.co, an investment crowdfunding platform focused on real estate development with social impact, has expanded significantly with the addition of five partners. All have extensive experience in regulation crowdfunding: Their track record includes the establishment of Common Owner, a Buffalo-based crowdfunding platform with a specialization in real estate.

The five include Julian Anjorin, a serial entrepreneur with a strong background in cybersecurity; Derek King, who specializes in historic preservation; Richard Rogers, an urban planner and attorney; Mitchell Skomra, a software engineer; and Jacob Walsh, who has substantial experience in operations management. All are based in Buffalo except for Anjorin, who lives in North Carolina.

Anjorin will oversee web development and support for the Small Change platform and business applications used for operations. King will focus on early-stage business development, with a primary emphasis on real estate developers and pipeline partners.  Rogers will assist issuers with structuring their offerings, review and negotiate contracts, and handle a variety of compliance functions. Skomra will work with Anjorin on web development, and Walsh will guide issuers through the onboarding process and manage the company’s books.

The world is not fair, and it probably won’t ever be, but we’ll be damned if we don’t try to balance the financial scales a bit. We’re going to make sure that Small Change evens them out.”

Tracking returns.

Sometimes you have to look back to see how far you have come.

We did just that last week.

With the help of our Small Change tech team, we created a brand new landing page on our real estate crowdfunding platform called Tracking Returns. You’ll find past projects posted there, organized by performance. We plan to update these quarterly.

In a nutshell, 9 of the projects listed have gone full cycle, meaning that all initial equity invested –along with any profit – has been distributed to investors. 4 of the projects have started to make quarterly or annual disbursements, and a bunch more are poised to start soon.  

Most notably, 56% of past projects listed are led by women and/or minority teams. Now that’s making change!

Americas YLG: Crowdfunding for Real Estate.

Eve Picker is participating in Crowdfunding for Real Estate, a virtual event hosted by the ULI Americas Young Leaders Group. This event will explore new ways to invest in development projects in an exclusive event offered to Young Leaders on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. ET.

The panel, made up of Mark K. Bhasin, CFA, FRM, FDP, CMT, ERP, PRM, WELL AP, Brian Dally, and Eve Picker, will discuss the basics of real estate crowdfunding, how it works, different types of crowdfunding platforms, and the risks and rewards involved. Attendees will also hear from experts in the field who will share their insights on how to use crowdfunding to achieve your investment and project development goals.

Working from anywhere.

Working from anywhere is the new normal.

So we’re glad to see Small Change’s work-from-home policy covered in this article by The Fintech Times. It’s true that you can miss face-to-face banter.  But days in the office, industry events and of course, those dreaded Zoom meetings, keep us socialized.

That’s right: The publication named me a “Diversity Champion,” one of its special recognition awards. I’m proud to be included among so many women who are making their mark in what is still a male-dominated industry. And I’m especially proud that my work to enhance participation of women and minorities in real estate development and investment has resulted in this honor.
