An oasis is emerging in the food desert.
Residents of the underserved Northwest Goldberg neighborhood in Detroit will finally be able to buy groceries and household goods locally, thanks to the establishment of Kornr Store, a retail concept developed by Brinda Devine of Purpose8 Real Estate.
Only 18 months after raising $43,000 through a crowdfunding campaign on Small Change Brinda is preparing to open Kornr Store at 6224 16th Street later this summer.
That’s not the only good news: Brinda is already scouting locations for a second Kornr Store. We’d love to see this concept take root in other food deserts, which would significantly improve the health of area residents.
For now, we congratulate Brinda on the opening and look forward to celebrating this community-minded developer’s future successes.
